APPLICATION STORY
Acid Dosing Flow
Coriolis flow measurement selected for automated dosing of hydrochloric and methanesulfonic acid under vacuum conditions.
On this page
Overview
A UK chemical manufacturer required accurate mass flow measurement for automated dosing of hydrochloric acid and methanesulfonic acid within an upgraded process area.
The challenge
The instruments had to operate with corrosive media, initial vacuum conditions and an automated valve sequence controlled by the site PLC.
- Confirm suitable wetted materials for both acids.
- Maintain measurement performance during vacuum-assisted transfer.
- Provide a usable output for end-of-dose valve control.
- Limit pressure loss across the dosing lines.
Our solution
Quality Lab Solutions reviewed the chemical data, operating flow ranges, pressure conditions and control requirements before selecting Coriolis mass flow measurement.
- Sized separate instruments for the two dosing duties.
- Reviewed expected accuracy across minimum and maximum flow.
- Checked pressure-drop calculations before quotation.
- Specified an output suitable for PLC integration.
Results
The final specification covered two acid streams and established a direct mass-flow signal for automated dosing and valve closure. The sizing review also confirmed the expected accuracy and pressure loss at both ends of each operating range.
Customer benefits
The customer received an application-specific measurement package supported by documented engineering checks before ordering.
- Direct mass measurement for repeatable dosing.
- Reduced dependence on density or temperature compensation.
- Clear PLC integration path.
- Lower selection risk for corrosive chemical service.
