Selection guide

Gauge, absolute and sealed-gauge pressure references

Every pressure instrument measures against a reference. Specifying the wrong one is one of the most common selection errors we see on enquiries.

The three references

Gauge pressure is measured relative to the surrounding atmosphere, absolute pressure is measured relative to a full vacuum, and sealed-gauge is measured against a fixed reference sealed at the factory. Choose gauge for most process and hydraulic duties, absolute where barometric changes would distort the reading, and sealed-gauge for higher ranges where venting to atmosphere is impractical.

Catalogue coverage

From millibar-level duties to 5,000 bar, across gauge, absolute and sealed-gauge references. Filter by range, or send your working pressure and we will size the span with overpressure headroom.
